Error parsing Xaml file: Root element is missing.

How to fix these? Not to hard.
Go to C:\Users\your login user name\AppData (usually this folder is hidden) \Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2011 - 64bit\enu\UI
Find those 2 files.
MaxManaged.xaml
MaxManaged.xaml.backup
Remove (you can delete it but just in case remove now) MaxManaged.xaml from this folder.
Rename MaxManaged.xaml.backup to MaxManaged.xaml
Should be fine now.

3ds max 2013 location:
C:\Users\your login user name\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2013 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\UI

  2. Hi, I'm running Windows XP Pro 64bit, AMD quad core @ 3ghz, 8Gb ram, 2 x nVidia GeForce gt9500 with 1 Gb each. I got this error 3 days ago, and used this method to fix it. Yesterday the error was back,so I installed SP1. This fixed it......for 1 day. Then this AM, the error msg was back, so I installed SP2, this did NOT fix it. So I again used the method above, and again Max is working fine WITH the ribbon available. I wonder how long this will last. Do you know of a permanent remedy for this? I'll let you know if the msg comes back, and thanx for all your help, Happy New Year

  3. Hi Ron,
It fixed the problem permanently for my case and I'm not sure why it happens to you... sorry but if it happens to me I will try repair 3ds max (or uninstall/install again) then install newest sp.

  10. after deleting the MaxManaged.xaml file, I tried to rename "MaxManaged.xaml.backup" to "MaxManaged.xaml". But It says "can't rename this file because there is already a file existed with this name".
any way, deleting the "MaxManaged.xaml" file has solved my problem.
    Thank you :)
